Culture in Gubat festivals and Fiesta

June 11, 2018 – The Gubat Folklore came into life as the 7 clusters of the town paved the road of Barangays Manook and Luna Candol through their dance interpretation of the heroic story of Mardaoan. The street dancing revolved around the tale of how the old town of Gubat suffered under the reign of Tagulipnan, the monster characterized as half bird and half man; that unrelieves the leniency of the town folks and created sleepless nights, posing a threat of devouring their childs. Renowned Chieftains; Aramag, Maragadao, and Mararag – were also portrayed by the dancers along with the villagers to create a sensational and in depth statement of the tale. Participating barangays had indeed chose the best of the best dancers because they brought the needed emotions and atmosphere of the story that was evident throughout. The bedazzling colors of red, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink in their costumes yielded the mood of excitement for the audiences. As the scorching sun dominates, the participants never bothered a sweat and continuously moved despite the heat.
Dancers held their characters as if it is their own story and radiated an ambiance of happiness and satisfaction that somehow reflects what Gubat is today. Each cluster showed incomparable differences in their performances thus creating uniqueness in it. Some were admired through their costumes and some because of their overall performance. Participating groups were judged according the holistic impact of their execution. Cluster 1 composed of Barangays Ariman, Luna Candol, Panganiban, Paradijon, and Pinontingan garnered the 3rd place which was their second time to be included in the top 3 winners. Cluster 2 consisted of Barangays Balud del Sur and Norte, Cogon, Cota na Daco, and Manook won the 2nd place and gained their regards from the audiences because it was a close fight with the event’s winner which was the Cluster 8; comprised by Bagacay, Nato, Ogao, Paco, and Patag that established a 2-peat victory since last year.
